Major Fire: Disaster Recovery

tissue manufacturer Kimberly-Clark.
In December of 2007, Micro Plus Computers helped the company relocate to their new offices on Deeside, and provided brand new IT infrastructure to this office including the provision of a new File Server and backup solution.
On Wednesday May 7th 2008, Peter Stokes Operations Manager of Micro Plus Computers, received a phone call from the owner of Paperback Recycling, Gordon Anderson, requesting we attend his new offices as the building was engulfed in flames and he was concerned over his business data held on the file server. After liaising with the Fire Brigade, Peter arranged for an engineer to attend site the following day to recover any IT equipment not destroyed by the fire.
The Fire Brigade met an engineer from Micro Plus on the 8th May, and salvaged the workstations and remaining IT infrastructure from the premises in Deeside and returned them to the Micro Plus Head Office in Oswestry.
The equipment was examined and assessed by in house technicians but was found to be damaged beyond repair. However, Micro Plus technicians managed to recover all of the data from the hard drives on the server and each of the workstations. This was a huge relief to Gordon, who now had confidence that his business could be quickly rebuilt with up to date data. Due to the back up solution installed previously by Micro Plus, there was also an off site back of the data in place meaning that data recovery was always possible.
Business Continuity
The same day, Micro Plus contacted their suppliers, and arranged express delivery of identical hardware to their office in Oswestry in order to allow a prompt resolution to Paperback’s problems. An engineer from Micro Plus then visited Gordon’s home address to arrange an intercept of all emails from the Paperback server to Gordon’s home pc, meaning that he immediately had a live communication channel to allow him to effectively liaise with his customers, insurers and suppliers.
The new hardware was received by Micro Plus on 12th May, and by close of business on 13th May, the new servers and workstations had all had their data installed and where ready to be installed in to the new Paperback Recycling office just down the road from their destroyed building. The team at Micro Plus Computers pulled out all the stops for their valued customer and his business was back up and running within 5 days.
“Micro Plus Computers have serviced our computer needs for more than a decade, in fact since Paperback Recycling was formed in 1995. We still enjoy the best of service, advice and IT problem solving thanks to their technicians and customer service based approach.”
