What is Virtualization and why Virtualize?
Computer systems have historically been designed to run one operating system and one application, leaving most machines greatly underused. Virtualization allows multiple virtual machines to run on a single machine. Each virtual machine shares the resources of the one physical system and each virtual machine can run different operating systems and applications just as if it was a separate physical system. Each virtual machine has it’s own full-blown operating system
Virtualisation platforms implement a piece of software on to the computer operating system. This software monitors the virtual machines and allocates system resources as required, in the background. A virtual machine behaves as if it was a physical system and will be compatible with most operating systems and applications.
Some of the advantages of virtualization include:
Improved desktop management and control – take complete control over updates and software availability for all users – faster deployment of desktops – fewer support incidents – avoid software conflicts and licensing issues
Run multiple operating systems on a single computer system – create a virtual PC environment on your Mac systems to run Windows applications
Less hardware is required which reduces power consumption and costs
Virtualization environments have improved disaster recovery potential
Technical staff can manage two or three times the number of virtual servers and desktops compared to physical systems
At Micro Plus Computers we use both VMware and Microsoft HyperV virtualization systems. For more information or to arrange a no obligation quotation, please email us here.
