How to set up the File History backup feature in Windows 10
If you have upgraded to Windows 10 and you have an external hard drive available then you can make use of the new built-in backup feature called File History.
Set this up and Windows 10 will make automatic snapshot backups to an external drive whenever you make changes to a file.
If the file you are working on gets deleted or corrupted, or if you just decide you preferred a previous version then you can access the old versions on the external drive.
How to set up File History in Windows 10 …
In Windows 10 open Settings and go to Update & Security and then Backup
Make sure your external drive is connected and then click on the + symbol alongside Add a drive.
Windows will then ask you to choose your drive and just pick the one you want to use.
File History will now automatically backup all of your files in the User folder to the external drive (there is an on/off slider bar that you can use to switch the service off if you decide not to use it)
If you want to add more folders or files to the automated backup process then you can select then by clicking on More and select Back up these folders
By default, Windows 10's File History will back-up all the folders in your User folder. To add other folders to File History, or to remove some, click on More options under the on/off slider and scroll down to "Back up these folders" where you can add more folders just by clicking on the + symbol alongside the folders you want.
Obviously if you keep backing up everything and store it forever then your external drive may eventually get full so you need to decide how many revisions of files you want to keep or how long these need to be kept for – also how frequently you want these backup snapshots to be taken. You can change all of these settings in this same section of the application. If there are any folders that you definitely don’t need backing up then it’s a good idea to exclude them.

Originally I was recommended Micro Plus by a few friends who specifically said that the after sales service was excellent and that the staff who work there were always ready to genuinely help. I am someone who can find their way around a computer in general but, as a busy professional, find it to get to grips with some of the underlying stuff. I wanted to buy from a place that was truly bothered about their customer and who would still help out after the gear had been taken home. Everytime there has been an issue, no matter how small to someone really in the computer know, the staff at Micro Plus have always been happy to help out and, ultimately, fix any issues for me without trying to sell me something I dont need! This is refreshing. Their knowledge is excellent and reliable and if they dont know something, they just say so which means I only trust them all the more. Often it is the truly excellent after sales service that is missing these days and this is certainly a Plus at Micro Plus. It is great to know that they are there and I know that whenever I need to replace anything or upgrade in the future then there is only one stop for me - Micro Plus. Thanks again to all the staff
Micro Plus has been the only way I have become a competent user of IT. I have never seen such efficiency. The product is made to the customers specification and how rare is that in IT. Normally we elderly are trying to live up to the machine. You make the machine work for me! The diagnostic skills and service when I killed the computer this week were superb. You are the best.

I recently bought my new epson PX810fw Photo printer at a heavily discounted price. Fantastic pricing as the cheapest i could find online was £169.99 and Micro-Plus where £20 cheaper! Also the service I received was exceptional as they highlighted a special offer which gave me an extra year warrenty for free when I purchased a multi-pack of ink, which I needed anyway. Very Happy.
All the staff treat customers with courtesy and they are always ready to help you. They serve you efficiently. They are knowledgeable and if they are in doubt they will ask another colleague. I have used them for years and when Helen left, who was brill, I thought Oh lord will I receive the same patient attention? ... I did. I do.
What I have always found a plus with MicroPlus is their after sales service. As an example I can cite the recent purchase of a modem/router which was not fully compatible with my now aged PC. At no cost to me they resolved the problem the same day and I was up-and-running within the hour. Yes I was quite impressed I have to say.
I always find the staff at Microplus Oswestry to be so friendly and helpful. They always try to explain the problems in plain English without talking down to you. To a person who doesnt understand the internal workings of computers this can be very pleasing. Their prices are always very competitive which means that you havent got to travel to Shrewsbury or Wrexham. I would and have recommended them to my relatives and friends.

I have been working from home in Oswestry for over 10 years now and could not have done it without the support and advice that I receive from Micro Plus computers.
